I just found locally a 2007 Yamaha Venture Multi-Purpose long track with
only 500 Km . Asking price $7500. With an MSRP of almost $12,000 CAD for a
2010, this is pretty tempting.

I'm not all too familiar with Yammy's but I haven't read anything really
negative about them and I've been looking at their 4 strokes since the RX-1.
The Venture would actually suit me better with my size (6'2" 300 Lbs) and
some of the off-trail riding I do. Anything bad about them? Any insight
would be appreciated.

BTW, I'm a die hard Bombi fan but they are severely late in the 4 stroke
game and as you can see from my sig, I need something newer ;-)

Thanks.

Don't know about the Yammie but I absolutely love my '09 4 stroke Doo
At 6'1'' 270 it has the most room of any sled hands down, a true all day
sled.
2 strokes are lighter though and more suited for off trail due to less
weight to unstick if stuck

Which model. Looked at the Expedition, seems interesting but how well
proven are their 4-Tec?

I've got a GSX 1200
I read DooTalk.com all the time and nobody there had anything bad to say
about the 1200 motor. That site is the #1 Doo info site.
It's a new motor last year and guys where throwing turbo's on them last
winter already. With moderate boost and over 200hp levels they were holding
together. Stock motors had no issues.
It's the smoothest, most quiet sled I've ever owned and it's a torquey motor
too.

Very nice sled. Actually found an article putting it favourably against the
Vector
http://www.snowmobile.com/manufacturers/ski-doo/skidoo-gsx-1200-vs-yamaha-vector-652.html

But I can't quite afford a new machine no matter the brand right at the
moment so this Venture would be as close to new that I could get for now.
With only 500 Km, it's just broken in!

Now to convince the wife :-|

Well, that wasn't too hard! She was actually quite willing (I guess she
also saw a good deal). Went down and picked it up on Sunday. In excellent
condition, not a scratch on her. All it needs is the 500 Km, post break-in
maintenance and some snow!

And for the first time in my life.... a reverse gear! :")

Oh yeah, we also started up the Doos today. Lotsa smoke. That's why I'll
be riding in front!

Once ya have reverse you'll never go without it IMO.
Just don't back into snowbanks, it will put the flap into the track.
Good luck

Reverse is nice for backing off the trailer and the occasional 3 point turn
on narrow trails. I have found that my suspensions tend to collapse and
cause the track to dig a rut if you try to get too rambunctious with it.

Local weather guy claims he sees evidence El Nino is strengthening which
means a milder winter for us in WNY and less lake effect :-(

safe travels

I had an Arctic Cat rental in the Yukon a few years ago that had reverse.
The track wasn't that aggressive on it and I got stuck a couple of times.
Since I was by myself (yeah, yeah, I know!), the reverse did help to allow
me to go back and forth until I had enough of a run to keep going.

We had a bit of snow last night and some of it stayed a bit. Some parked
cars still had snow on them tonight. With the mild summer and all the rain
we've been having this fall, we may have another good winter. Last winter
had great snowfall but I didn't have the time to partake in any riding since
we were moving from Gatineau Quebec to Ottawa, Ontario.

Lets all keep up the snow dance.

See you out there...
