Okay, it's been almost a couple weeks since a post during the middle of the
snowmobile season. I guess it's time to pull the plug and admit that
rec.sport.snowmobile has had its day.

Time to give it up.

The only reason that the group has gone dead is because of the
liberals who have taken over.

Anything you want to talk about is mostly illegal anyway. For
example, I drove my SnoCat through the national forrest 2 weeks ago 13
miles down unplowed logging roads and trails but was it legal.... who
knows, who cares?
Since usenet has mostly vaporized, logging onto this list is not as
easy and that is what's going on I think. I doubt it is due to lack
of enthusiam for sleds, Tombstone Pizza and drinking.
Bt hey, what would I know anyway.

There is snow in the Hoppyzone btw. If you cross through that zone,
make sure you buy at Hoppys because they are the only biz on your map
that is supporting your map............ check it out.

I did not buy sled insurance(saved $400)... so my 03 Indy Classic 600

Trailer has rusted lug nuts & flat tire... But I do flip trail

With all the internet based sites / groups Usenet is something for the "old
folks" now.
With all the ISP's dropping Usenet is another reason, hell I'd bet most
people online nowadays don't even know it exists or what it is.
My terranews outlay of $3.95 for a one time sign up gets me on, when their
severs are up that is.
Most other groups are loaded with liberal assholes who have been booted off
the internet sites IMO but I still read some on a daily basis as some useful
information is still floating around.
Strongest group I've seen is rec.harley.motorcycles. But it's a nationwide
club now but those guys rule it and are not shy at all.
I've been here since '95 when I got my first 'puter. When Rob and a lot of
folks were here because that's all there was back then. And I'll continue to
scan the site when I see messages have been posted.

I'm going a day early to get my sled running. If there is enough

It's probably not that he's lost, but the fact that a good many
service providers have just stopped carrying USENET, and they need to
get additional access, and refuse to pay for it.

I know EARTHLINK is still carrying the newsgroups, but I think AOL
and others have dropped them completely, so this is more likely the
issue.

Good to know even overperfumed, young, fat bitches can't take you down.
At least insurance will pay to fix a new vehicle and not total it off
and leave you shopping for a replacement. Inconvenient either way, but
it is always better after the first scratch, then you can relax.

Well I hope not. I remember back a long time ago when this group was still
alt.snowmobiles and there was Doug Ritter from Michigan, Dan Canfield from
Utah, Dave Joppru from Wisconsin, Kelly from New Jersey and numerous others.
We all got together a couple of years in a row in northern Wisconsin for a
ride
and Dave had sweatshirts made up with the new rec.sport.snowmobiles wording
right under WFO on 'em. Great bunch of guys. Also got together one year
for
Haydays in Minnesota. Well, not all alive now either. But that was a quite
a few
years ago, back when the neat stuff was 650 triples or 670 HO Ski-Doos.
Anyway, was able to generate enough interest to get from an alt. group to
the
rec. group status. That was pretty cool. Was also mentioned in Snow Goer
magazine, although misquoted if I remember right. I haven't seen any of
those
guys on here for ages and Dan and Doug are still out there at
http://snowmobile.off-road.com/. Anyway, I hope it doesn't roll over and go
away.

Well, rarely.... I only have usenet set up on one computer and it has
been offline for several months. Just got it back up and running
today.

It's sad, but the web-based forums have taken over. I frequent
several non-sled forums daily, and when I have a sled problem, I do
search the sled ones too. Sadly, that is where the bulk of the
knowledge base has moved as well. (A few exceptionals on RSS excluded
of course!)

My problem with the web-based sled forums is there are too many, and
way to many posts. Who can keep up? RSS, even at its peak, still
felt like a family. (And except for one obnoxious VT resident who
started his own forum, I've enjoyed everyone on RSS over the years

Sadly, I'm still on my old 670 Summit. When I go on group rides with
our State Association, I'm usually riding the 'antique'. While I'd
love a new(er?) sled, it's hard to justify it given the way the 670
has been running the last few years. I may have to wait until it
dies... (I actually need MORE track. 136" doesn't cut it any more!)
I just picked up a 583 Summit of the same year for my wife. It has
electric start and reverse and she likes it just fine. Go figure.

The Manta continues to sit. One of these days I'll find the time to
get it running again and back on the trail. Just too many projects...

At least I managed to get 1290 trail miles in this winter. I missed a couple
