Ailpine 503 performance and Formula 503 ,,what is the diffence in fact???

Hi all
i just install an Alpine 503 with one carburator in my 2002 Scandik
because i was stole,,,,every thing
engine transmission,cab everything is gone.
On the 503 there is a RED plate and i saw on others 503 that this
plate was BLACK ,
os far what i found is that 503 from ALPINE do not have the same hp
curves as others 503 is it true???

my engine seems to have low end torque but no high rpm .

Ah, that's the info plate. I don't think there is any significance to the
colour itself but the information on it does. I can't read the model number
but it wouldn't have helped me since I don't know how to break them down.

Just for your info, the plates on my 1992 377's (which are smaller versions
of the 503) are black. I know for a fact that the 503's make their power at
a much lower RPM. Here's what I know about the 377 vs. 503:

Bore: 2.441 2.835 (the 503 has a bigger cylinder)
Stroke: 2.402 2.402 (same)
Compression: 6.9:1 6.3:1
Shift speed (RPM): 6700-7000 5100-5300 (the 503 makes it's power at a
much lower RPM)

So basically, the 503 is built for pulling power than for speed to pull
heavy utility sleds out of deep snow. Even though the 377 is much smaller,
it would beat the 503 on top speed but has a harder time getting the sled
unstuck (I can vouch for that).

You may have mistaken another engine in the Formula you saw because a 503
would probably not have been put into a performance sled like that. From my
1993 manual, the Formula could have had a 467, 582, 583, 670 or 779 and were
all liquid cooled.

As you pointed out, the Alpine has a single 34mm carb, and your Scandik had
two 34mm carbs. I'd suspect that the Alpine 503 also has different port
timing and compression ratio.
