any idea what the top speed of a 2000 Yamaha SXR 600 triple would be?
any tips of how to get more speed out of it ??

I cant answer the top speed question but I can answer the "more speed"
question......

Make sure your jetting and clutching is dead on... clutching is probably THE
most important thing one can do to help overall performance of ones sled.
Plain and simple, if it's not clutched properly you might as well not waste
your time with anything else.

Proper ski alignment and track alignment are other low dollar "free" MPH
gains....
Other than those things, V-Force reeds (3-4 hp gain), aftermarket pipes (not
something I'd suggest to a novice) gearing the sled but this will change
your clutching totally.... so be prepared to sit on a lake, river or in a
field testing testing and testing everything one item at a time......
I sure hope you have patience...... it's not a bolt on and go thing your
looking at here.... it takes lots of time and testing to get the correct
combination.

Good luck

Your 600 should top off in the neighborhood of 95mph and the only real
way to gain more hp to gain you a few more mph is to put on a
performance kit consisting of triple pipes, Reeds, and a clutch kit.
The big issue with most people is that triple pipes are louder than
the stock, and take a little getting used to, and overall will gain
you about 20hp. But all of these parts will cost you about $1K. I
don't know your mechanical aptitude But, as stated by someone else you
need to have some mechanical knowledge to be able to complete the
mods. I would check out www.Benderracing.com or
www.Hauckpowersports.com they have power packages that have been
tested and will mostlikely work out for you with minimal adjustments.

The real question is do you want more speed or do you want your sled
to pull hard and feel like a big bore racer, if you want it to respond
like you are glued to the trail clutching will make a major
difference. Hopefully I didn't confuse you. Good luck!

I have two good running ZRT triple triples. My 2002 is stock but well set
up and tops out at about 98 on a 30 degree day with radar. My 97 has reeds
and other mild trail mods. It topped out at 99.8 on the same day. Both
MIGHT just barely break 100 on a cold crisp day.

I agree with another poster that the Yamaha you mentioned is probably good
for about 95. Everyone thinks their sled is faster than it really is until
you meet Mr. Radar.

You have omitted the most important factor, affecting top speed.
Conditions.

In 1988, I had a 400CC Polaris (sometimes known as the "white
lightning"). That thing, under the right conditions, would top out at
about 95 MPH. The "right conditions" was on pure, smooth ice, with
just a skiff of snow, for slider lubrication. Put that thing into 6
inches of snow, and it would top out at about 50 MPH. It was geared
far too high, for the power to be effective, but it sure went fast,
when the conditions were right (about twice, in 3 years).

In contrast, I have a 2000 500 RMK, which tops out at about 90 MPH,
under the "right conditions". It also pulls about 80 MPH in 6 inches
of snow. The main difference is in the power, and the gearing. If I
geared the 500 RMK with the same ratio of power to track speed, as
that 400 was geared, I expect that it would pull about 130 MPH under
the "right conditions", but I would be VERY surprised if it would do
much more than about 60 MPH in 6 inches of snow. (for those who don't
know, a RMK is a mountain sled, and it is geared low, for power, not
speed, and has a deep lug, 136 inch, track on it).

It doesn't help, that almost all speedos are calibrated to read faster
than reality.

Many people seem to think that gearing a sled up one tooth will make
it go faster. Probably true, under "perfect" conditions, but that
will, usually, slow it down, when it is norma.. uh "not perfect". I
have found, that gearing a sled down one tooth will, generally, not
affect top speed, but it will, in many cases, actually improve
performance when it is "not perfect".

Hope this helps...

I've only run 3 sleds that had speedo's on radar, and at 100mph they
were all within 1 mph of the radar reading... but without decent traction,
your speedo will read higher than the gun.
Altitude makes more difference in the top speed of any given sled, than
just about anything else. Above 5,000' you're down nearly 20% versus the
"corrected" horsepower... and it takes horsepower to go fast.
