Rich, I tried to send this email, but your address bounced. Should have
guessed that "killspammers" wasn't a good domain...
Anyway, here's my reply:
I couldn't point out any single weakness...just a general lack of quality
and engineering.
My folks bought used an '86 safari 377 and an '85 Yamaha XL III 340. The
engineering quality of the Yamaha was obviously superior. Built better, ran
better, handled better...and it was a year older. But again, we were using
them as trail sleds. If you were to ask which one would I rather tow a
shanty with, the 377 would win because it is a bigger, heavier sled.
If this one you have a line on is in good shape, I wouldn't hesitate to
recommend it for your intended use.
I am really glad that Ski-doo started pouring money back in to their sled
engineering department in the 90's...now they are tops in my opinion. I
have owned several doos now and each one has been better than the previous.
Currently I have a 2002 MXZ 700 Adrenaline and it is about as perfect a sled
as I have ridden...haven't tried the Rev yet.
Good luck,
-todd
Post by Rich MI am a doo fan and owner and I wouldn't touch one of these...
IMO, the 'doos of the 80's were pretty bad...the industry as a whole was
down to some degree, but the doos were crap.
The engine is probably the best part about it.
But then again, for ice fishing it should do fine...should be pretty
inexpensive.
If I were looking for and 80's sled, it would probably be a Yammi.
Yeah, the price is cheap and it's supposedly in good shape. The other
replies aggreed with you about the motor being good, but what is it
about the rest of the sled that makes an 80's Ski Doo bad? Just trying
to find out weaknesses that I should look for when I give it the once
over. Thanks.
