Just heard today there was an avalanche this weekend at the Big Iron
Shootout at Revelstoke. Seems that the hill that gets pounded on every day
all season (Turbo Hill) avalanched this weekend during the competition.
Over 20 people severely injured, 2 confirmed dead, still looking for
more......

I've pounded that hill myself and I can just see several thousand people at
the bottom, directly in the avalanche path, scattering for their lives. Not
a good picture.

A sad day indeed for the sport of hillclimbing.......

I heard that on the news... that sucks.
It sounds like they found everybody... people had gone home without
checking out of their hotel rooms:

They will never learn.
Everyone wants to be "extreme" and on the edge today so risk taking is good.
It will not happen to me, I'm a pro, I'll out run it with my bad ass sled,
etc. .
Natural selection at work.........

The worst part was all the bystanders at the bottom, however, they did
not have to stop to watch. I can be disappointed in the poor snow we had
here on the prairies, but at least there is no avalanche danger.
